When Hot and Cold Become a Powerful Trigger

For people with Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), temperature extremes aren't just uncomfortable—they can be a powerful trigger for debilitating symptoms.

Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) is a complex immune response that causes the body to react inappropriately to normal things. Reactions are not allergic reactions. However, they act very much the same way and can lead to anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. Everyone experiences a unique set of symptoms, and no two people are the same, making diagnosis and treatment challenging. Not everyone with MCAS experiences anaphylaxis, and symptoms can vary and change over time. While there is no cure, there is hope. Symptom remission can be achieved with the proper support and guidance from an MCAS-literate healthcare provider.
